Bucharest, Romania

The Apolodor commercial and office center, located on Barbu Vacarescu Boulevard is designed to be a landmark in the center of Bucharest. The entire complex is designed to allow flexibility for the tenant spaces and the latest technology and energy conservation strategies based on LEED criteria.

The retail portion of the building has large floor plates and high ceilings of over 5m, allowing flexibility for large or small retail tenants. The office component is designed to accommodate a large anchor tenant in the main flagship tower. This space can be connected to the secondary tower through a spacious atrium, allowing it to be used as a secondary space for the main tenant or leased to others.

The aesthetic concept behind the two towers was inspired by two of the most notable artists of the 20th century: the master sculptor Constantine Brancusi and his renowned disciple Isamu Noguchi, the American Japanese sculptor. The idea behind the two towers is to create folding transparent skins, which will envelope the buildings in similar yet opposing skin configurations - one horizontal and one vertical. This treatment will create a very novel and interesting exterior form for the towers, in contrast with the strong minimal base made of large glass and stone elements. This will allow constant natural lighting inside the buildings, regardless of sun position, considerably reducing the development's energy footprint.
